Rangers Biographies

Name:
Ronald George Francis Broadbent. MBE. JP
Start Date:
Commenced Town centre Ranger 7th June 2009.
History:
I have worked in Hitchin since 1972 and I am a retired Police officer. I retired from the Police Force in 1999 and I was the Community Police officer for Hitchin Town Centre for nearly 20 years. In the early days I introduced to the town Radio shop link and Pub Watch. It has improved now and the interaction between Pubs, retailers, Police and Rangers works well. Whilst I was a serving Police officer I was awarded the MBE (Member of the excellent order of the British Empire medal) for services to the Community. I am also a serving Justice of the Peace (Magistrate) at Cambridge. Since my retirement I have worked in the retail trade in the town. I love working with the Community which brings me to why I am a Town centre Ranger. The Community engagement again working with members of various retailers in the Town has bought new life to me. Hitchin Town folk have always cared about the Town and it’s people and that’s why I love Hitchin. I have worked in other towns but It did not feel the same so I was drawn back here. My experience as a Police Officer has worked well with being a Town centre Ranger and hope that the retailers and shoppers feel safe and secure.
Outside work I like to keep fit, but walking nearly 5 miles a day at work keeps me fit. I am a keen cyclist and skier.
As you can see I enjoy voluntary work and this year 2011/12 I will be President of The Rotary Club of Hitchin.

Natalie Sullivan
Start Date:
7th June 2009
History:
I’m from Hitchin I studied at Art & Design at North Hertfordshire Centre for the Arts
College, and then went on to Rose Bruford College in Sidcup, Kent where I graduated with a BA (hons) degree in Scenic Arts. After doing various freelance scenic work (The National Theatre, ‘Dancing on Ice’, The Mayor’s Thames Festival and New Years Eve at The Royal Festival Hall in London) I moved back to Hitchin and became a Town Centre Ranger.
What I like most about being a Ranger is the different challenges it brings me.
When I’m not Working I like to keep fit and I play hockey for the local Blueharts Hockey Club.
Name:
Steve Hunt
Start Date:
March 2011
History:
I’m Hertfordshire born and bred hailing from a little village called Markyate in NW Herts. I currently live in Shillington.
I started in Local Government when I left school at 18 and spent the next 39 years working for different Local Authorities. I have worked in Stevenage and St Albans in Hertfordshire, Westminster in London and finished my stint in Milton Keynes. I took early retirement in March 2010 and set up my own Transport Consultancy in June 2010, since when I have carried out contracts for Stevenage Borough Council.
The most rewarding aspect of being a Ranger is the interaction with businesses in Hitchin Town Centre and building a relationship with them and in so doing to promote the work of the Hitchin Bid.
