As detailed under Safety and Security, the Rangers will have a significant role keeping Hitchin looking at its best. The cost of this has been included in Safety.
Trade waste recycling/disposal
There was a huge demand from the local businesses to set up an integrated system that extracts recyclable or reusable materials effectively and efficiently, and which then disposes of the remainder cost-effectively. We will be looking at several options and talking closely with NHDC before contracting the job to the most suitable operator. We anticipate spending up to £10K to set the system up.
“Deep” cleaning
Generally speaking the level of street maintenance and cleaning is good, only marred by the odd “grot” spot that of course detracts from the quality elsewhere. We will be watching for problem areas and reporting them quickly to the Council for remedial action. However we feel that a more thorough “deep clean” in the BID area periodically would make a significant difference to the look and feel of the town centre. £12K has been set aside to assist this process, possibly by purchasing bespoke, specialist machines for the job.
The total spend on Clean and Gleam for the full five years of the BID will be a minimum of £232,500
