Access and Parking
Parking promotions - free parking days or park free at quieter times
We will offer reduced-price parking, or periods of free parking, which will be extensively advertised in the local media. This will encourage customers old and new to come to the town to shop and to explore its charms. We expect that the cost will be around £10K for each full year.
Car Park Signage
Current opinion suggests that while signage into and around town is quite good, the directional signage for car parks is an issue. We will look at “real-time” digital signs that denote which car parks have spaces and install it on key roads into and around the town. There will be better information and clear route ways provided at all public car parks so that the process of parking is simplified and made more user-friendly. The cost may be £60K, spread over years two and three.
Extend pedestrian priority
Highways in town remain in the jurisdiction of the local authority but we will be pushing hard to extend the current pedestrian priority and control parking at all times in and around the Market Place. This will require feasibility studies plus time investigating the capital costs of any improvements. We will co-operate with the councils to facilitate this.
The total spend on Access and Parking for the full five years of the BID will be a minimum of £110,000
